Florida Supreme Court authorizes changes to standard civil jury instructions regarding juror regarding juror questions to witnesses and communications with court

On November 16, 2017, In Re: Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases – Report 17-01, the Supreme Court of Florida authorized the publication and use of amended jury instructions 201.2 and 202.4. Regarding questions arising while the jurors are outside the courtroom, the amendment to 201.2 added an instruction to jurors to submit any questions in writing, unsigned, directly to the bailiff, without sharing the question with other jurors. Regarding questions arising while the jurors are inside the courtroom, the amendment to 202.4 added an instruction to jurors that if a juror has a question for a witness, the juror must raise his or her hand and request that the judge ask the question before the witness leaves the stand.
