Professional
History: Mr. Sands began his legal career representing
insurance companies and defendants in personal injury cases. The
law firm he started in 1968, Sands, Smallbein, Eubank, Johnson,
Bussey, Rozier & Company, P.A., eventually became one of the
larger insurance defense firms in the Central Florida area. In 1976,
Mr. Sands left defense practice and started a plaintiff’s
personal injury firm, now called Sands White & Sands, P.A.,
in Daytona Beach. Over the years, the firm has become particularly
well known for handling complicated medical negligence cases. Mr.
Sands has obtained many settlements and jury awards in excess of
a million dollars, including the single largest jury award in Volusia
County history.
Community
Involvement: Mr. Sands has been extremely active
in the Volusia County community ever since he moved to DeLand in
1957. He has been involved in community theater for several decades,
first with the Shoestring Theatre Company, and in more recent years
with the Sands Theater Center (part of DeLand’s Cultural Art
Center). He has taught an adult Sunday school class at DeLand’s
First Presbyterian Church for over thirty years, and has been recognized
for his work in the community by numerous governmental, civic and
charitable agencies.
